Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk said during his speech at the online launch of the "First Aid Training Campaign" project under the slogan of "Mission First Aid" that they aim at giving first aid training to 260 thousand teachers, administrators and other school staff as a part of first stage of the project within 3 months.

 

Stressing that the Ministry continues to work in an effort to provide quality of education for children, Selçuk stated that the Ministry has the responsibility to provide safe environment for every single child and improvement existing conditions. Minister Selçuk said that the first and urgent health support ability of teachers is crucial for providing safe and healthy school environment adding that the Ministry has launched a large "First Aid Training Campaign" within this framework.

 

Defining first aid as a the first medical help in the scene of an incident given to a sick or injured person until full medical treatment is available; Selçuk said that the person who applies first aid should be competent. Noting that a person who is competent to apply first aid is called first responder, Selçuk went on to say that;

 

"What is the condition of becoming a first responder? This condition is to receive required training in line with the First Aid Regulation issued by the Ministry of Health and obtain first responder certificate. We want our teachers and other school staff to obtain this certificate. Schools are playing host to hundreds of people. Naturally, risk of certain accidents and injuries are possible. In the light of this, it is important to enable human resources at school and increase the number of first responders in order to provide first aid help in case of any negativity, prevent any further harm and provide improvement in the health conditions. We are aiming at - giving first aid training to 260 thousand teachers, administrators and other school staff as a part of first stage of the project within 3 months. This campaign is one of the largest first aid training projects planned by the Ministry of National Education.

 

Selçuk stressed that training programs will begin simultaneously in 81 cities of the country.

 

Minister Selçuk stressed that the first aid training which will be organized in the First Aid Training Centers affiliated to the Provincial Directorates of National Ministry in 81 cities will be a total of 16 hours.

 

Selçuk said that the training will also include 4 hour long theoretical and applied assessment programs and the face to face applied training will be carried out within the context of mask, distance and hygiene rules.

 

Selçuk pointed out that in addition to general first aid knowledge, training will focus on airway obstruction, bleeding, shock and injuries, heat balance disorders, fainting, impaired consciousness, high temperature, intoxication, animal bites, foreign body in the eye, nose and ears and broken and twisted bones.

 

Noting that those who will successfully complete the training will receive "first responder" certificate, Selçuk said, "Certified teachers and our other staff who completed this training will work as a part of first aid teams which will work in the fields in the aftermath of possible disasters such as earthquake and floods.

 

Noting that first aid training and similar campaigns have an important place in the education system, Selçuk thanked all of his colleagues who work for the superior benefit of students.

 

After watching the video presentation of first aid training campaign, Minister Selçuk had an online meeting with trainers working at the training centers based in Ankara, Van and Sivas and then chatted with the trainees of the first aid campaign.
