FULL-TIME FACE-TO-FACE EDUCATION WILL BEGIN ON SEPTEMBER 6

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said in his press release concerning the beginning of the new school year that face-to-face education will begin for all grades five days a week on September 6.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that all grades will start full-time face-to-face education on September 6.

Orientation training program will begin for preschool and first grade students between September 1 and 3.

Teachers will attend seminars concerning "the pandemic and reopening of schools" before the beginning of the new school year. Preschool and first grade teachers will attend the seminar on August 31 while teachers of other grades will complete the seminar program between September 1 and 3.

Stressing that the health of each and every child is the most valuable asset, Minister Özer said: "As the Minister of National Education and father of three students, I know that parents want to be sure about the safety of their children when they are at school.

At this point, it is clear that the corona virus will continue to be a part of our lives for a long time. Due to this reason, we have to continue our lives by considering the corona virus risks and taking required measures. We do not have the luxury of keeping our schools closed for a longer period. We have to learn to live with the corona virus and continue face-to-face education for the development, health and future of our children."

Minister Özer said that education will continue by considering the existing entire program and without reducing class hours adding that the school hours, breaks and dual education, if required, will be set according to the physical capacity and number of students of schools by the school administration and provincial directorates of national education.

Minister Özer noted that TRT EBA TV and EBA platform will continue to provide education for students who failed to continue face-to-face education.

All indoor areas at schools will be disinfected every day
Özer pointed out that school canteens, cafeterias and pensions will be opened with the beginning of the new school year and support training courses will be organized for only 8th and 12th grade students and made the following statements about the measures that will be taken at schools during the pandemic:

"Students, teachers and other education workers will wear masks at schools. School administrations will distribute free masks for students and school staff. Entrance to the school buildings will be restricted for people who are not students or school staff. All indoor areas at schools will be disinfected every day. Classrooms and all other indoor areas will be frequently ventilated."

Minister Özer: All teachers and education staff must kindly get vaccinated for the sake of their own health and for the protection of their students

Stressing that vaccination is the prior measure that must be taken for the sake of children's health, Minister Özer stated that Turkey is among the countries which prioritized vaccination of the education staff and gave the following information: "As of yesterday, at least one dose vaccination rate of our teachers is 80.34 percent and this figure is approximately 8 percent higher than the vaccination rate of the general population of Turkey. Two-dose vaccination rate among teachers is 69.73 percent and it is approximately 15 percent higher than the vaccination rate of the general population of Turkey. I am happy to say that there has been an over 7 percent increase in the number of teachers who got vaccinated in the last 12 days in other words between August 6 and 18. All teachers and education staff must kindly get vaccinated for the sake of their own health and for the protection of their students."

Özer announced that the Ministry has founded a new electronic tracking system that will allow momentary monitoring of all processes in the provincial, district, office and school level.

Pointing out that vaccination is not obligatory for education workers, Minister Özer said that measures concerning staff who are not vaccinated or in case of a positive corona patient in any classroom will be determined by the Ministry of Health.

Minister Özer noted that policies defined under the light of existing scientific data will be constantly updated by considering new data.

"We will monitor all developments after the beginning of the new school year and take required steps in case of a need for a change," said Özer and thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, all ministers, teachers, education workers and parents for their support.
