MINISTER ÖZER GETS TOGETHER WITH EDUCATION REFORM INITIATIVE EXECUTIVES

Minister Özer got together with Education Reform Initiative (ERG) executive board members and high officials of agencies supporting ERG in İstanbul in order to exchange views about education policies of the Ministry of National Education.

Vehbi Koç Foundation Chairwoman of the Board Semahat Arsel, Sabancı Foundation Chairperson of the Board Güler Sabancı, ERG Honorary Chairman and Member of Board Üstün Ergüder, ERG Director Işık Tüzün, Aydın Doğan Foundation Chairperson of the Board Candan Fetvacı, ENKA Foundation Executive Board Member Esra Tara, Zorlu Holding Executive Board Member Olgun Zorlu and other executives of agencies supporting ERG attended the meeting organized in İstanbul.
 
Participants exchanged views about education policies implemented by the Ministry of National Education during the meeting.
 
Minister Özer mentioned improvements achieved in education in the last twenty years and Türkiye reached OECD average in schooling rates in all levels of education.
 
Bakan Özer noted that some newspapers claimed that approximately 800 female students are not enrolled in formal education and added that these allegations are not true.
 
Özer said that in addition to lifting antidemocratic practices that prevented female students from enrolling in formal education, the Ministry achieved its goal to increase the schooling rate of female students. For the first time, the number of female students enrolled in schools exceeded the number of male students.
 
Stating that the Ministry always supports teachers in their personal and professional improvement training programs, Özer reminded that Teacher Profession Law is specially designed for teachers. He added that the law is just a beginning and it is open to improvements although some circles tried to make manipulations about it.
  
Özer stressed that the Ministry has been carrying out projects and campaigns in order to reduce success differences between schools as a part of its goal to maintain equal opportunities in education.
 
Participants discussed views and suggestions about education policies during the meeting.
