The Ministry of National Education initiated the "10,000 Schools in Basic Education" project with the purpose of decreasing success and opportunity differences among schools and reinforcing equal opportunity in education. As part of the project, the Ministry aims at reinforcing infrastructures of selected basic education schools in addition to enriching the education environment.

 

A project assessment meeting was organized under the leadership of Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer and participated by deputy ministers, director generals of the Ministry and provincial directors of national education of 81 cities of the country.  

 

Most important component of the project is to open 3,000 new kindergartens and 40,000 preschool classrooms until the end of 2022. Within this framework, 93 new kindergartens were inaugurated.

 

Moreover, plans to open 2,133 kindergartens and 7,500 preschool classes were completed. The Ministry allocated a total of 65 million liras for the repair of existing classrooms and procurement of education materials and devices till now.

 

As a result of these efforts, the schooling rate among the five year age group which was 78 percent reached 90 percent within a short period of time.

 

In addition to the construction of 3,000 new kindergarten buildings, the project includes the renovation of 7,000 primary school buildings.

 

As a part of the first phase of the project, the Ministry will establish computer labs at 1,000 primary schools, complete the landscaping of 2,930 primary schools and window and door repairs of 2,919 schools.

  

The project also includes training programs for students to assist them to improve their basic skills. There are also first aid awareness and psychosocial support training programs for students. The project will encourage students to participate in cultural, artistic and sports activities.

 

On the other hand, the Ministry prepared professional and personal improvement training programs for all school administrators and teachers of 7,000 selected primary schools.

 

"We are aiming at decreasing success and opportunity differences among schools and reinforce equal opportunity in education. The project began in March. We have completed support program planning for students, teachers and school administrators of selected 7,000 primary schools and we also started the reinforcement of education infrastructure of these schools. We have focused on the entire project and details of the project schedule set for March during the Project Assessment Meeting," said Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer.
