"ORIENTATION PROGRAM" FOR FACE TO FACE EDUCATION

"Directorate General of Basic Education has prepared an "orientation program guidebook" for effective and productive first week in face to face education and form a common language in all schools."

The guidebook which is delivered to all schools via regional directorates of education includes all details about measures which should be taken by teachers, students, parents and school administrators.

School administrations will decide about orientation programs, students will attend face to face education on two days of the week and take 30 minute long five classes between September 28 and October 2. There will be 10 minute breaks between classes. School administrations will make arrangements including assigning on duty teachers for the breaks between classes in order to maintain social distancing between students.

Based on conditions and opportunities, school administrations will divide students into two groups according to social distancing rules and these two groups will attend orientation programs on different days. They will also guide students to follow social distancing during breaks between classes.

School administrations and teachers will monitor students who do not attend face to face education due to their parents' wish and they will take measures about the education of these students. All students will be supported and encouraged for following distance education programs regularly.

Visitors will not be admitted to the schools
During this week, visitors will not be allowed in schools and in case of compulsory situations, visitors will be recorded and admitted in the schools in line with measures.

Minister Selçuk has a message for parents
Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk sent a video message to parents during the first online parent-teachers meeting.

Stating in his message that all parents had a vision about the first day of school but they could never have imagined such an opening, Minister Selçuk said all the world is facing the same problem and all countries in the world are struggling with the same educational problems.

Selçuk stressed that the Ministry has been closely monitoring the situation in all countries since the beginning of the pandemic and took decisions according to the recommendations of the Science Board and went on to say: As of today, children of many countries are at school and they are in their classrooms. We preferred to make a more controlled opening and we started face to face education with first grade students. We are planning to carry out face to face education together with distance education. We considered every single detail while we were preparing schools for face to face education. As a part of distance education, we have produced programs that our students would like to follow."

Our children do not need to know about the figures concerning the pandemic
Noting that teachers will share details about the subject with parents and he also has things to say to parents as a teacher, Selçuk went on to say: "We are passing through a very difficult process. The pandemic has different effects on very household and we all experienced hard times. Uncertainty concerning the process may cause anxiety but we have to manage this process well for our children. This does not mean that we would neglect what is going on and act as if everything is normal. Don't force yourself and your children to do this. Listen to them and let them relax."

Minister Selçuk stressed that parents must not make fearful and worrisome conversations when children are around and added: "I hear some parents are talking about the number of daily coronavirus patients and deaths when they are with children. Children do not need to know about these figures. All they need to know is measures that should be taken in order to protect themselves from the coronavirus. Moreover, they must be aware that their parents, teachers, health institutes and the state are working with all their means to protect them. They must know that they are not alone. We are here to protect them. Please keep these points in mind. We are teachers. We all trained to protect our children's today and future. We all worked for this and we are all here.  It is our duty to work with every means to keep our students safe. We are beginning this school year with your support and cooperation. I would like to thank you for your support and patience.

Selçuk stated that he has a little request from parents and added, "Books you would read to your children during this period will have value and will have greater impact. Of course you don't have to organize activities all the time in order to make your children's free time more productive. You may say you already did what you can do. But, it will be useful for you and for your children if you play quality of games that will encourage your children to learn life skills and give them responsibilities. Finally, I want to remind you that our ministry's internet platform includes limitless contents that could support your children's education. I hope you will use them in the maximum level."
