Approximately 190 thousand teachers attended the "Teacher Training Programs on the Development and Evaluation of Learning" project carried out in cooperation between our Ministry and UNICEF with the purpose of making contribution to the knowledge and skills of teachers about their student's development and evaluation of learning. As a part of the project, 2 thousand and 30 preschool and primary school teachers completed a training program of trainers and a total of 139 thousand primary school teachers and 46 thousand preschool teachers attended training programs including developed training contents.

"Integrated and compatible approach"
Meanwhile, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that they expect teachers to monitor and evaluate the learning and development process of students with an integrated and compatible approach in the modern era.

Özer went on to say that, "It is important to include children and parents in the educational evaluation and decision making processes in order to help teachers to notice every child. Effective observation and evaluation of children's development, personal interests and needs and learning skills are among the important responsibilities of teachers."

The project aims at systematic evaluation of students
The project aims at assisting teachers to develop skills for the systematic evaluations of students and how to design the education environment and teaching approach based on making evaluation as a natural part of a lesson. The project also supports systematic observation, use of information collection methods, analysis of recorded data and ability to synthesize.

Department experts developed contents
Process in order to provide all preschool and primary school teachers the opportunity to benefit from these training programs continues. Within this framework, the Ministry prepared the "Teacher's Guide to Evaluate Development and Learning in Preschool Education" and the "Teacher's Guide to Evaluate Development and Learning in Primary Education".

Training programs for all preschool and primary school teachers are available on ÖBA.

Do not compare children
Some of the information concerning systematic observation in the teacher's guide prepared for preschool teachers is as follows:

Things to do during observation
- Note information such as date, time and learning environment,
- Focus on only what is heard and seen,
- Note the expressions of students,
- Sensitivity to development and learning moments,
- Focus on what a child can do,
- Not each observed situation and comment separately,
- Observe every child equally.

Things not to do during observation
- Insist children to display a skill in order to take observation notes,
- Expect all children to display the same skill at the same time,
- Focus on knowledge or targeted skill rather than the ability of the child,
- Make comparison between children,
- Include personal views to the observation notes,
- Take notes about every child every day.
