VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BECOME HOME FOR THE STREET ANIMALS WITH THEIR PRODUCTION

Samsun Çarşamba Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which produces desks, chairs and student lockers of many schools throughout Turkey, became a home for street animals. The teachers and students of the school built nearly 20 shelters for street animals from wood waste.

Teachers and students of Çarsamba Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Department of Furniture Technology produce desks, chairs and student lockers for many schools across Turkey in the workshop established within the school.

Wood waste remainder from the materials used in production is transformed into a home for street animals instead of being incinerated or thrown.

Since face-to-face education was made a pause during Covid-19 pandemic, the nests built for street animals by the students who came to the school as part of the "I'm in the Remedial Training Too'' program are placed in required places by Çarşamba Municipality.

Çarşamba Mayor Halit Doğan stated that they want to evaluate these wastes within the scope of the "Zero Waste Project" initiated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife Emine Erdoğan. He said "In order to show that street animals can be protected from rain, heat and cold, to make students be animal friendly and to recycle wastes as huts, we designed a project together with school. Our students made huts from waste materials. We also built nests in different parts of the district. We meet the animals' needs such as food and drink."

Pointing out that the iron profiles and other materials they use in production come to their school in wooden packaging boxes, Doğan said, "After the usage of the material is done, they become garbage. We decided to use these recyclable waste. We wanted to make up for the applied courses of the students and to provide our dear friends to have the opportunity to have home with the social responsibility project during the summer term.

School Principal Musa Kurt stated that the school is one of the largest and most comprehensive vocational high schools in the region and that it has a circulating capital enterprise.

In this context, Kurt stated that they delivered the shelters they produced to Çarşamba Municipality by signing a protocol, "We have delivered nearly 20 shelters to the Municipality. In these shelters, our true friends will be protected from the cold in the winter and the heat in the summer. We have produced very elegant and beautiful shelters by making a roof over the packages. Thanks to these, street animals are provided with a more comfortable life."

Students participating in the remedial training expressed that they are happy to take part in the social responsibility project.
